RESEO conference Stuttgart

21.01.2012 | From the 1 to 3 March 2012 the reseo conference titled "Playing a role in society – Opera, dance and intercultural dialog" will take place in Stuttgart, Southern Germany.

Both the arts of opera and dance - as well as our societies - thrive on movement, change and diversity. People have always been on the move, looking for a better situation for themselves and their families, and searching for an environment in which they can develop safely and freely. This flow has been further reinforced by the facilitation of travel, the increase of socio-economic discrepancies between countries and globalisation. Our cultures have been shaped by migration – and studies confirm its positive influence on our societies’ development.

However, media and political analysts have been observing a disturbing increase in far right, extremist attitudes and intolerance towards groups of people perceived as different from an often inexistent norm. Policy-makers struggle to answer this tendency.

But what is the role of opera and dance – and especially education in this challenge our societies are facing? How can we contribute to an answer?

This and other questions will be discussed on the conference. The organizers are trying to generate a dialogue about the responsibility of art in society.

The event is organized in cooperation with the national theatre Stuttgart (opera, ballet and theatre).
