Avanti’s 33rd Summer Sounds Festival will feature more than a dozen concerts with a range of traditional and contemporary works performed. As is tradition, the festival will open with a concert at the Pernaja Church on Wednesday night. The 2.5 hour performance of ‘Agricolan kotikonnuilla’ will be a great kickoff to the festival with soprano Tuuli Lindeberg singing.
This year’s artistic director is composer Lotta Wennäkoski, whose enthusiasm for the event is palpable. “It has been an absolute joy putting the programme together, not least because I have followed Avanti! as a fan and listener since the 1980s,” says Wennäkoski. “Later, I had the privilege to collaborate with this unique bunch of artists on a piece of my own, and now it happens that I am in charge of a whole festival programme.”
This year’s programme will have an emphasis on songs and stories, reaching back as far as the renaissance and across 400 years to present day. Of particular appeal as always are the free urban concerts to be held in Porvoo city centre, offering samples from the festival. You can view the full programme online here.
The Avanti Summer Sounds Festival will be held from Wednesday 27th June 28th to Sunday 1st July in Porvoo, Finland. You can read more about the festival on the AVANTI Festival website.
