The jurors of EFFE praised GAIDA as a festival that boosts the international reputation of the Baltic countries in the field of contemporary music and raises the bar for quality of festivals. It is the only festival from the Baltics that has received this distinction.

The festival will take place in the National Gallery of Art in a specially constructed concert space. The venue of the final concert will be the Vilnius Congress Concert Hall.

This year’s line-up will feature several performances by prominent and internationally acclaimed artists, among them piano and electronic performer Francesco Tristano, Canadian artists Tanya Tagaq, GRAMMY laureates Third Coast Percussion performing new work by Philip Glass, British band Icebreaker with the Lithuanian premiere of Brian Eno’s legendary work “Apollo”, electronic music artists Andy Stott and Max Cooper, contemporary British composer and conductor Thomas Adès, as well as Russian-born American pianist Kirill Gerstein. The festival will conclude with the Lithuanian premiere of Music for Ensemble and Orchestra by the renowned American composer Steve Reich.

A novelty of this year’s festival will be three audio-visual world premieres, which will be in on display throughout the festival. Jurgutis have created a unique audio-visual mechatronic project Quantonom.

On October 16th a special concert of the festival will be dedicated to the memory of the internationally famous Lithuanian artist, poet, curator, godfather of American avant-garde cinema Jonas Mekas (1922-2019), who departed earliers this year.
