Fondation Thalie Residency - Call for Projects – Deadline September 15th

The Fondation Thalie in Brussels has opened a call for a research and production residency. The goal of the call is to facilitate a collaboration and partnership between a visual artist and a writer. The length of this innovative residency is a minimum of six weeks, starting in January 2020.

The visual artist and writer are invited to propose a collective project. The project should pick up the challenges that Europe faces today and envision perspectives for its future. The artist and writer duo may be an already established partnership or formed particularly for the call.

The research themes may include but may go beyond:

• Identities and different forms of belonging in contemporary Europe

• Resurgence of nationalisms and redefinition of borders

• New forms of political communities, struggles and solidarities

The successful applicants will receive an artist fee of 1,500 euros for each candidate, a production grant of up to 8,000 euros for the collective project as well as a workspace and accommodation provided by the Fondation Thalie in Brussels.

The final presentation of the project can either take the form of a publication or an exhibition. This can take place at the Fondation Thalie in Brussels as well as at a partner venue in France. The residency should not necessarily take place in Brussels.

The call is addressed to artists and authors of all nationalities based in Europe, without age restriction. Candidates must speak French and / or English. The literary work may be produced in any European language A. translation into French and English will be envisioned for the final exhibition and / or publication. Deadline for applications is September 15th, 2019.
