The International singer-songwriters’ festival “This is Me” (Tai-Aš) is returning to Vilnius this Thursday with three days of inspiring entertainment. From the 19th to the 21st of October Vilnius St Catherine’s Church will be filled with the sounds of song, spoken word and ‘singing poetry’, featuring performers from 23 countries.

The International Singers-Songwriters’ Festival is an initiative of the centre of culture and education, through the Vilnius Teachers’ House. Initially launched in 2003, the festival is the only event of its kind in this part of the world and welcomes performers from almost 2 dozen countries.

The festival is focused on the full diversity of poetry and singing in many and varied ways. The genre of performance dedicated to the combination of music and poetry – knowns as singing poetry - is a highlight of the festival.

The programme launches on Thursday night at 7pm with the concert “Music from the Roots”. Performances will take inspiration from the origins of the performers themselves and celebrate the tapestry of ethnic cultures present. From the Irish country and folk music of Northern Ireland’s Brendan Monaghan and the Russian poetry and folk songs of Jevgenijus Kirjackis, to Lithuania’s own Agota Zdanavič and Bulgarian star Lilly Drumeva’s unique bluegrass Bulgarian folk tunes.

Concerts on Friday night – “With All My Heart, From All the World” - and Saturday lunchtime – “Bards for Children. Sing All” will also showcase the true diversity and talent of the international performers participating this year. “This is Us” is the closing concert at 6pm on Saturday night will be an emotional one with love as the theme and family at its heart. Some of Lithuania’s most prominent singing poetry stars will perform – each alongside a family member. Aidas Giniotis will perform with his son Ignas, and it’s a true family affair when Saulius and Jokūnas Bareikiai, along with Jokūbas’s wife Dominyka and daughters Barbora and Severija also perform together. Also on stage will be Gediminas and Ainis Storpirščiai and Teresė and Milda Andrijauskaitės with their father Gintaras Andrijauskas.

The International singer-songwriters’ festival “This is Me” (Tai-Aš) is on from Thursday the 19th to Saturday the 21st of October at St Catherine’s Church, Vilnius, Lithuania. See here for festival programme, venue and ticketing information.
