07.08.2018 |

The Turku Music festival is Finland’s oldest running music festival – and the 2018 edition will open in just 2 days on Thursday 9th August. The festival features some of the best orchestral, jazz and chamber music performed by local and international artists, and will run until Wednesday 22nd August 2018.

The festival was founded in 1960 by the Musical Society of Turku and has gone from strength to strength each year for almost 6 decades now. The medieval city sprawls across the Aura River and has always attracted a diverse mix of highly regarded Finnish and international performers. The programme reflects the international character of the audiences travelling from all over the world to enjoy the festival.

Performances are held at various locations around Turku and the city comes alive during the festival period. This year’s Artistic Director is Ville Matvejeff, who has put together a diverse programme with a little something for all tastes and all ages. From orchestral concerts to recitals, chamber music to opera, jazz to world music and more – the range, quality and uniqueness of the music performed will be sure to delight, right up until the spectacular closing concert on Wednesday night.

Turku Music festival is on from Thursday 9th August until Wednesday 22nd August at various locations around Turku. The programme is available here online and ticketing information can be found here. You can read more about the festival on the Turku Music festival website (in Finnish, Swedish and English).
