The festival believes that chamber music can transcend the stuffy clichés of the past and create inspiring musical experiences for its audiences. Gone are the sombre quartets and serious performances of the past and in their place, are unique and dynamic interpretations that start at Flamenco and end with juggling and dance.
With the ideals of freedom, reason and tolerance at the forefront – as favoured by the enlightenment thinkers of the 18th century, the festival creates an open and exciting space for values such as these to be exhibited at their best.
This year’s theme for the festival is ‘voyages’ and will be evident in an exploration of language in music – the regional distinctions, dialects and accents, along with the changing face of music as populations shift and the passage of time leaves its mark through destruction or transformation.
The 2017 festival will feature performances from the pioneering ensemble Barokksolistene, the Kungsbacka Piano Trio, dancers Karin Modigh and Noah Hellwig, the Vertavo Quartet, Dreamer’s Circus, composers Britta Byström and Mirjam Tally and many more.
Change Music Festival will be held from Thursday 10th August – Sunday 13th August 2017 at various locations in Varberg, Kungsbacka and Tjolöholm. The programme is available here on the festival website (in Swedish and some English).
"Culture includes not only culture and arts, but also the way of life and system of values. In this sense culture becomes the major power for intellectual renewal and human perfection." (European Council Report on European Cultural Policy)
