The Global Service Jam takes place in various locations around the world but those in Helsinki this week can join in too with a cohort jamming together at Futurice Helsinki Office.
The jam is a global event aimed at sharing ideas and developing new public sector service solutions, generated by users. Public service staff as well as skilled professionals such as designers, business people and academics will come together along with students, parents, kids and grandparents – basically anyone interested in broadening the capacity of public sector services.
The event has a global theme which will not be revealed until the launch at noon on Wednesday. People will then gather into teams and set their timers to spend the next 48 hours deciding on a problem they want solved, then experimenting, innovating and developing prototypes inspired by the theme. Teams will follow a human centred design process, with the aim of addressing real problems that affect everyday people. Individual skills will be utilised and hands on solutions are encouraged. Mentoring will be provided by experienced service designers.
The spirit of friendly competition is encouraged and short key notes will be presented throughout the event to keep enthusiasm up. The jam will end on Thursday at which point teams will present their works at 2pm
Global Government Jam will be held on Wednesday 17th May from midday to 9pm and on Thursday 18th May from 8am to 3pm at the Futurice Helsinki Office in Helsinki, Finland. Tickets are €25 (to cover materials and catering) and you can read more about this non profit event on the Global Government Jam registration website.
