‘Modernism for the Future 360/365’ Residency

16.12.2020 |

The international project Modernism for the Future 360/365 is looking for artist-researchers of any discipline from Lithuania, Czech Republic, Belgium or Ukraine for a residency.

Partners of Kaunas 2022 (Lithuania), the Culture Strategy Institute (Ukraine) and Industra Art (Czech Republic) are cooperating together with the project ‘Modernism for the Future 360/365’. The project addresses the decline and the preservation of global modernist heritage. It aims to tackle two problems: In many countries modernist art and architecture has no recognition value due to the dominant stories of older artistic and architectural epochs. Often modernist cultural heritage sites are privately owned and thus inaccessible for the public as well.

Artist can apply until 15 January 2021 for an open call for the Modernism for Future 360/365 with their own projects on how to find solutions to the problems. For the residency the selected artists will go to Lviv (Ukraine) or Kortrijk (Belgium) to work on their projects between 1 May and 30 July 2021 for at least 15 days. The aim of the resident artists is to carry out artistic research into one modernist building (Kaunas, Kortrijk, Brno, Lviv), involving the local community, heritage owners, experts, employees working in the field of cultural heritage and last but not least the general public.

Applicants have to be artist-researchers of any discipline from Lithuania, Czech Republic, Belgium or Ukraine.

The applicants will be selected on 22 January 2021. These selected artists will get an artist fee of 3000€ as well as travel and accommodation expenses. The finished projects will be exhibited in January 2022 at Kaunas 2022.

The number 360 in Modernism for Future 360/365 symbolises all possible perspectives of modernism: cultural, political, economic and more, whereas the number 365 asks us to notice the heritage of everyday. It is more than just visiting churches and museums on special occasions – it is also the architecture of our common surroundings: residential buildings, industrial and entertainment facilities. Dissemination of good practice, creative workshops, educational activities, as well as calls for artistic interpretations of modernism and art projects in modernist spaces are all part of the programme of the project. Moreover, there are various collaborations with local and foreign partners planned.
