The city of Oulu in central Finland, puts the best of its culture on display throughout August, with seven festivals as well as numerous other small productions in the ‘Oulu Festival Presents’ series. There are hundreds of events to choose from and something for all tastes, from arts to music, literature to cinema and performance.
The seasons kicks off with the Oulunsalo Soi Chamber Music Festival from the 27thJuly, followed by Elo Jazz from the 1stof August. The Literary art festival Muusajuhlat starts on the 14th, followed by Oulo Arts Night on the 16th, Koiteli Elää on the 18th, the Air Guitar World Championships from the 22ndand the Oulu Music Video Festival from the 23rdof August. The Oulu August Festival Presents series includes three performances between the 1stof August and the 1stof September - The Secret Gardenby Flow Productions, Wigsbyby Lumo Company, andPari suhteettomuutta, an opera by Northern Opera Company. The series also includes a number of other concerts and bonus performances. The city’s favourite cafes, bars, restaurants, concert halls, churches, libraries, parks and squares become venues and the streets fill with the lively summer atmosphere of the festival.
