The "Virtual Baltic Sea Library" is a continuously growing anthology of representative literary texts broadly connected with the Baltic Sea that seeks to provide multiple insights into the Baltic Sea region.
The website contains regional essays and texts which are organised alphabetically by author as well as by geographic location giving information on literary interest.
Eleven editors in the countries situated on the Baltic Sea are responsible for the selection of texts, and an editorial board is responsible for compiling the Baltic Sea canon as a whole.
The official start of the project will be a conference on "Cultural Diversity, Language and Digital Content" arranged from 5 to 7 April at the Permanent Representation of Land Schleswig-Holstein in Berlin/ Germany.
"Culture includes not only culture and arts, but also the way of life and system of values. In this sense culture becomes the major power for intellectual renewal and human perfection." (European Council Report on European Cultural Policy)
