The photo series Sabine is not only a tribut e to the title protagonist but also a great paean of love born at the end of the world, i.e. the east coast of Greenland.
Black and white photos of the Dane, Jacob Aue Sobol, is a beautiful love poem in a form of a reportage or rather an intimate journal. The photo series Sabine is not only a tribute to the title protagonist but also a great paean of love born at the end of the world. The artist lived together with Sabine for two years in Greenland, where she was a member of the indigenous community. Unfortunately, their relationship did note survive the passage of time and intercultural differences. (on the basis of the press release)Jacob Aue Sobol was born in Denmark in 1976; lived in Canada 1994-95 and in Greenland from 2000-2002; lives and works in Copenhagen. His first major project was a documentation of life on the east coast of Greenland It was published in 2004 as a book entitled Sabine and was nominated for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2005. In 2006 Jacob Aue Sobol received the first prize in the World Press Photo competition in the category Daily life-stories for the series of photos taken in a Guatemalan village.
