INTERNSHIP :: the German Centre of the International Theatre Institute and the Goethe-Institute
(2007 06 10 18:06)
Young theatre directors, dramatic advisors, set designers, choreographers, or assistants in these areas from developing countries and Eastern Europe are invited to apply to the internship programme prepared by the German ITI and Goethe Institute.
Interns are placed with theatres in Germany where they will learn about the planning and rehearsal process in at least one production. Interns will also be given the opportunity to see performances at other German theatres, which means that a good command of the German language is an absolute necessity (excluding dance interns).
The theatre internships in Germany lasts approximately two months; an extension is possible in special cases.
Interns receive a monthly stipend to cover housing and other living expenses. Accident and health insurance is also provided for as are theatre tickets if free tickets are not available.
Programme participants are expected to return to their native countries and incorporate and spread the knowledge and experience that they have gained in their dramatic area of specialization at the conclusion of the internship.
Materials may be requested from the German ITI Centre or Goethe-Institute in the applicant's home country. Completed applications are sent to the Theatre department at the Goethe-Institute Headquarters in Germany or the German ITI Centre through the home institution. The ITI and Goethe-Institute consider the applications and make their detailed nominations in consultation with each other.
The ITI makes the final invitation and arranges the internship in the best possible accordance with the applicant's wishes. The ITI may also organize any needed preparatory training. Applications must be submitted and have reached the central office in Berlin (ITI) or Munich (Goethe-Institute) at least three months before the internship is to begin.
Programme participants are expected to submit a report in German at the end of the internship (a translation may be submitted). The report should critically detail experiences made and knowledge gained at the host theatre. Interns should explain how they intend to put what has be learned into practice back in their home countries.
