LabforCulture :: Nordic Region in focus
(2007 08 13 19:19)
LabforCulture.org, the essential tool for everyone involved in arts and culture in Europe, continues to promote cross-border collaboration through its innovative Region in focus features. In this edition we are pulled inexorably north and as the long summer days turn cooler and begin to darken, LabforCulture focuses on putting our Nordic neighbours: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, under the spotlight.
LabforCulture invited Pikene på Broen [”Girls on the Bridge”], to present their perspective on the region from their unique position in the arctic border community of Kirkenes, Norway. Pikene på Broen was established in 1996 to promote culture as a driving force in the development of the local society and to stimulate cross-border cultural cooperation. Situated in the heart of the Barents Region, where ”east” meets ”west” Pikene på Broen has brought together a series of diverse and dynamic voices whose personal stories and experiences weave together to create a rich presentation through which we are able to share their remarkable view from the top of the world.
In addition LabforCulture.org presents a mapping of more than 100 cultural and artistic organisations from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden who are involved in cultural cooperation both within the Nordic region and beyond. This mapping has been prepared collaboratively by Pikene på Broen and INTERCULT. INTERCULT, based in Stockholm, is an innovative centre for local and international activities that hosts largescale co-productions and gatherings on cultural policy.
LabforCulture.org is dedicated to encouraging cross-border collaboration, dialogue and networking throughout Europe, going beyond physical, cultural and imaginative divisions to provide a platform for cultural projects that transcend borders.
