The Balticness in St. Petersburg, 13 December 2007 - 2 January 2008

The Balticness touring project organised by the Latvian presidency at the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) has made a stopover in St. Petersburg.
Programme:
Round-table Discussion Seminar Russia in the Baltic Sea Region: its role, opportunities and perspectives – 13 December 2007, 1 p.m., St. Petersburg State University
Participants: Dr Andris Spruds from the Riga Stradins University; Toms Rostoks, lecturer at the University of Latvia; David Dusseault, representative from the Aleksanteri Institute's Eurasia Energy Group of the University of Helsinki; Christer Pursiainen, Senior Research Fellow at the Nordregio Centre; Ambassador Valdis Krastins, head of the Committee of Senior Officials at the Council of the Baltic Sea States; Phil Saprykin, Deputy Director of the CBSS International Secretariat; Prof. Nicolay Mezhevich and Prof. Dmitri Lanco from the School of International Relations at the St Petersburg State University; officials from the city administration and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Participants of the discussion will address the following topic areas: what Baltic Sea Region co-operation means for Russia, which co-operation aspects are of key importance for Russia, and, which are the mainstays of mutual co-operation.
Photo Exhibition Where the Baltic Sea and People Meet 13 December 2007 – 2 January 2008, the Rumyantsev House Museum; the opening 13 December 2007, 4 p.m.
The exhibition consists of 40 works by young photographers from all the CBSS states. The authors, young people aged between 18 and 30, have created their own multi-faceted Baltic Sea image, revealing a sense of humour, creativity, appreciation of the surrounding environment, energy and dreams come true.
Jazz Concert featuring Latvian and Russian jazz performers - 13 December 2007, 7 p.m., the Jazz Philharmony Hall.
Representing Latvia will be Deniss Paskevics and the Riga Groove Electro association of jazz musicians from Latvia. David Goloshkin, a renowned jazz performer from St. Petersburg will represent Russia. The concerts will be visually enhanced with a video performance on the theme of the Baltic Sea, people and co-operation.
Project Balticness is a year-long series of events in the capitals of all CBSS states . The project is being implemented by the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in association with Latvian embassies in CBSS states, local governments of the host cities of the events, the CBSS Secretariat in Stockholm, the Centre for Contemporary Art, the Ze Pirates association of musicians and the Baltic Development Forum.
