(2008 04 24 15:42)
The conference open to museum professionals, exhibition curators, researchers from the humanities and social sciences, representatives from immigrant communities and artists is organized by Network Migration in Europe e. V., ICOM Europe (International Council of Museums) and Centre de Documentation sur les Migrations Humaines, Dudelange (Luxemburg). It is going to take place in six Museums throughout Berlin: Museum of Film and Television, Jewish Museum Berlin, Youth Museum Schöneberg, Kreuzberg Museum, Museum Neukölln and City Museum Berlin
During the conference results from a research and interview project with immigrant artists in ten European cities will be presented. The interviewed artists will be also invited to Berlin as participants in the conference and workshops. The participants of the conference will take part not only in a common opening and a public concluding session but they will also work in six different workshops lasting for 1,5 days. Issues such as immigration and integration and cultural representation of these processes will be discussed. The main aim of the workshops is to initiate reflection and discussion on migration in museums. The minutes of the workshops will be the basis for a publication to be launched in 2009.
Deadline: applications for participation are to be submitted by 30 May 2008. There are 25-30 places available.
