STELLWERK ZOLLVEREIN Studio Scholarship for Young Artists 2006

In 2006 for the third time a studio arranged in the scenery of an old coal mine will be opened for arts practitioners. This year’s edition is directed for young people from the East and Central European counties that joined the EU in May 2004 (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Hungary). During their stay they will be asked to work on the issue of “Border-crossing experiences and identity enlargement of the European consciousness between East and West”. Arvo Pärt Festival 2005, 11 - 28 September, Rakvere, Tallinn and others, Estonia

Quite a number of concerts will take place all over Estonia until September 28, in honor of Arvo Pärt, celebrating his 70th birthday. Some of Pärts most important compositions, such as the Saint John Passion, Miserere or Kanon Pokajanen, will be performed by distinguished international ensembles like the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir or the Theatre of Voices. Both are conducted by Paul Hillier, who is the director of the whole festival as well.
