Artists' Appeal for a Europe founded on its culture: "Appeal of a Thousand"
(2005 02 09 14:07) In June 2004, a hundred European artists and cultural operators launched an "Appeal for a Europe Founded on culture", which was sent to Mr. Romano Prodi, then President of the European Commission, as well as to the 25 Heads of State and Government of the European Union. On the occasion of the "Meeting for a Cultural Europe” in May 2005 and the-like conferences that will follow it was decided to re-launch the appeal and aim to collect a thousand signatures of artists and cultural operators from across Europe to support the appeal.
European artists and cultural operators are thus invited to add their signatures on the site: www.artistsforeurope.org , set up by the Royal Theatre of “La Monnaie”, IETM (International Network for the performing Arts) and EFAH (European Forum for Arts and Heritage). The initiators of the campaign hope that this renewed appeal will lead to the reinforcement of a Cultural Europe.
