16th International Festival of Piano Stars, March 9-16, 2008, Liepaja, Latvia

Eight concerts March 9-16 in Liepaja Theater and the Graudu Street Concert Hall presenting 13 pianists from Latvia, Canada, Italy, Cuba, France, Sweden, Russia and Brazil. The Festival has been organised since 1993.
The festival will open with the music of Chopin, Plakidis and Rachmaninoff performed by Krzysztof Jablonski (Canada), Giuseppe Andaloro (Italy) and the young Latvian star Agnese Egliņa, together with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. Chamber music will be in focus on March 12 twith Uģis Krišjānis and Guillaume Coppola (France), and on March 14, when another Franch star Jean Bernard Pommier will perform with Russia’s Alexei Volodin. "Brothers Double-concert” March 13 will feature brothers Patrik and Peter Jablonski from Sweden.
For jazz music fans there will be a concert featuring Rolando Luna from Cuba, accompanied by Māris Brie¾kalns and Estonian Toivo Unt (March 11). The piano festival’s finale will be Jean Bernard Pommier playing Beethoven’s Concerto No.3 for Piano, Ravel’s concerto, played by Alexei Volodin, and Villa-Lobos’ music, performed by Christine Ortiz (Brazil).
