New Drama Action is an international new dramaturgy and theatre festival. It has been an annual event since 1999. Its main aim is to present an innovative phenomena of contemporary drama and theatre and to introduce new ideas in Lithuanian theatre. It is organised by the Theatre and Cinema Information and Education Centre in Vilnius.
This Year’s Festival’s programme has been inspired by the 20th anniversary of The Decalogue TV film series by Krzysztof Kieślowski. The ten films were an important cultural and social event in Poland as well as in many Eastern and Central European countries.
During the Festival a dialogue between Kieślowski and the personalities of the contemporary European cultural avant-garde – directors Johan Simons and Armin Petras, and writers Michel Houellebecq and Dorota Masłowska will be presented.
The programme of New Drama Action 2008 will consist of the exhibition ‘Krzysztof Kieślowski. Signs and Memory’ that opens on 21 May as well as of screenings of The Decalogue and the workshop led by Krzysztof Piesiewicz – joint author of Kieślowski’s scripts. It will be also possible to see Johan Simons’ works – performances Platform based on the novel by Michel Houellebecq and Ten Commandments after the scripts of The Decalogue. On 26 June there will be the premiere of Two Poor Polish Speaking Romanians by Dorota Masłowska directed by Armin Petras also known under his literary pseudonym Fritz Kater. His new play Heaven will be also read during the Festival.
