Bergman Week, 24-29 June, Fårö, Sweden
(2008 05 27 12:04)The first Bergman week was organised in 2004 by a group of local enthusiasts. It is is a six day celebration of Ingmar Bergman’s art, with films, guests, seminars and tours to filming locations on Fårö. The aim of the event is to view Bergman’s films in a new light and emphasize the timeless themes that reappear in his works.
Now it is arranged by Fårö Framtid, Film på Gotland , Göteborg International Film Festival and Gotland University. This year’s event will be the first after Bergman’s death. Although he was quite skeptic towards the idea in the beginning, he became a great supporter encouraging the organisers to continue. So the Bergman Week lives on.
This year the international guest will be a German director Margarethe von Trotta one of the founders of the European Film Academy. Jan Troell with the world premiere of his new film Maria Larsson’s Everlasting Moment will visit the event. Gunnel Lindblom collaborated with Ingmar Bergman for more than fifty years and she will talk about this cooperation as well as introduce her favourite Bergman film The Silence. Allan Ekelund – the production manager on 18 of Bergman’s films will talk about Bergman as an artist and about the craft behind the productions. He will be another special guest during the Week. There are also many screenings, lectures and special events to be expected on Fårö.
