Haiku to Vilnius - competition
(2008 05 29 22:55)Haiku is a most brief unrhymed Japanese poetic form consisting of seventeen syllables arranged in three lines, recording the essence of a moment keenly perceived. Haiku evolved into an international form of poetry still Japanese by its origins but not conforming to the traditional syllable count.
The project „Haiku to Vilnius“ was initiated by Public Institution „Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009“. Wihin the project everybody is invitated to create a haiku poem dedicated to Vilnius. The aim of the project is to show the creative potential of the city. Its community should be concentrated on culture and develope its strength in order to spread a message about Vilnius as a capital of culture.
Even though haiku is usually about nature this time the poems can bring up various topics – from public transport to one‘s feelings in autumn. Best haiku will be awarded with special prizes as well as publicity through outdoor advertising, newspapers, television, radio, and special billboards. Public areas of Vilnius will be open to poetry.
