Contacting the World is a revolutionary theatre project for young and emerging artists. 12 of the world freshest new theatre companies have taken part in a year long exchange. They formed 6 pairs and overcame their cultural and geographical distances in order to create new pieces of theatre.
150 artists from all over the world are coming to Liverpool this year to take part in a week long international festival. The results of the cooperation of the theatre companies will be presented during the premieres every evening.
There will be four workshops a day and on 2 August it will be possible to see the largest single carnival performance in the UK. There will be 2000 costumed participants, acrobats, musicians, circus performers and street theatre groups collaborating with artists in a carnival event that will procession through Liverpool.
The events will take place mainly in Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) and the Unity Theatre but there will also be a lot of action on the streets. Contacting the World will be one of the main commissions for Liverpool's year as 2008 Capital of Culture.
