The Usedom Music Festival, Germany, 20 September- 11 October, 2008

The second-largest German island Usedom hosts the Usedom Music Festival, which every year presents music from the Baltic countries. The audience of the Festival have already listened to the musicians from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, Finland, Sweden and Norway; this year Denmark is going to present its cultural achievements and artists. Between September 20 and October 11 over 30 events will be held in various venues on the island, featuring such Danish artists as: Bo Skovhus, Trio Con Brio, the Choir of the Danish Radio, Paizo Quartet Kopenhagen, Athelas Sinfonietta, Harald Haugaard, Palle Mikkelborg and the composers Niels Marthinsen and Bent Sorensen.
Three large-scale symphony concerts will take place at the engine hall of the Museum Peenemünde. At first, the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Choir of the NDR (Northern German Radio) conducted by Thomas Dausgaard will open the Festival. The Danish baritone Bo Skovhus will perform the solo part in the concert as well as in two recitals of the Festival.
Then the audience of the Usedom Music Festival will have a chance to applaud the Baltic Youth Philharmonic performing on September 21 at this historical venue. The program of this year Festival focuses on the tight cultural cooperation of the Baltic region. 70 talented music students from all the Baltic Sea countries had been summoned to form the Baltic Youth Philharmonic (BYP). Maestro Kristjan Järvi had prepared and conducted this young ensamble already in the concert on June 4 2008 in Riga.
The Festival will conclude with a final big concert in the Museum featuring the NDR Radiophilharmonie, conducted by Xian Zhang.
Other events include master classes for musicians, family concerts, school projects and workshops for children and teenagers.
