The festival Sacrum Profanum focuses on the presentation of instrumental and vocal-instrumental masterpieces of the 20th century music. It emphasises the importance of the interwined sacrum and profanum motifs in music. The previous editions of the Festival presented works from various geographical locations: Vienna, France, Russia. In 2007 the organisers of the American music edition had an idea to feature also contemporary music, which resulted in presentations of works by Geaorge Gershwin, Charles Ives, Steve Reich, Eliott Carter, John Adams, Philip Glass, Jon Cage, Miles Davis, and Leonard Bernstein.
This year the sixth edition of the Festival - "Sacrum Profanum: Sensations" will concentate on the greatest musical achievements in Germany in the 20th century. The audience will hear works by Kurt Weill, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Hans Werner Henze, Helmut Lachenmann, Heiner Goebbels, and Wolfgang Rihm, as well as the most prominent genres of electronic music. It is going to be the biggest event and celebration of contemporary German music in Poland and in Europe.
Concerts and festival events will take place in post-industrial scenery of Nowa Huta (factory floors, rolling mills, galvanizing mills, or the famed Oskar Schindler Factory) and the historic old town in Krakow.
