The Baltic Youth Philharmonic (BYP), the New Voice in the North, will perform in Germany on September 21, 2008, at the turbine hall of the Peenemünde Museum in Usedom, as a part of the Usedom Music Festival.
The Baltic Youth Philharmonic is a joint initiative of the Usedom Music Festival; Thomas Hummel, Artistic Director of the Festival; and Nord Stream AG. It unites 70 most talented music students from 10 countries surrounding the Baltic Sea. The Founding Conductor and Music Director of the Orchestra is Kristjan Järvi, who shapes the artistic vision of the ensamble. The musicians of the Orchestra have an opportunity to work with the greatest contemporary artist both on stage but also in workshops and masterclasses. They go beyond geographic and artistic borders through communication, teamwork and interaction.
This year program of the Baltic Youth Philharmonic features Dvořák's Ninth Symphony "From the New World", a new work commissioned from Danish composer Niels Marthinsen for the BYP called "Burning Fiery Furnace", as well as Beethoven's Triple Concerto with soloists Søren Elbæk, violin, David Geringas, cello, and Lauma Skride, piano.
