VITRUM BALTICUM IV - NEW AND YOUNG :: 13-14 November 2008, Kaunas

The 4th international Baltic and Nothern artistic glass exhibition and seminar VITRUM BALTICUM IV will host 42 Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian and Finnish artists working in glass. This year's edition has a motto NEW AND YOUNG, which indicates both the young age of the new artists' generation and, even more importantly, an innovative aspect of creative work. The exhibition will present the artistic glass in the context of conceptual creation and a multitude of inventive technological solutions. The project hosts artists, no matter what their age is, working in a unique and unconventional way.

The expositions will be located in various venues and will show different types of artistic glass – from glass sculpture to glass plaquettes and installations.

Venues and dates:
A. Žmuidzinavičius Memorial Museum (National M. K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art), Communications History Museum and Gallery „Studija" under Kaunas Faculty of Arts, November 13 – December 17, 2008;
Ceramics Museum (National M. K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art), November 14, 2008 – January 25, 2009.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a theorethical seminar on contemporary stained glass and glass art issues, which will be presented by the professors and lecturers from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and England. The program of the seminar, which will take place on November 14, 2008 at Kaunas Faculty of Arts, covers the following topics: the history of glass and its place in art, contemporary Baltic glass in the European glass scene, the role of stained glass in architecture. The seminar will aslo include presentation of personal creation.

In winter and spring 2009 VITRUM BALTICUM expositions will visit other Lithuanian cities (Klaipėda, Kėdainiai, Alytus) and later Riga (Latvia).
