Foyer: language and space at the border, Nov. 14 – Dec.31, 2008, Vilnius
(2008 11 21 15:42)
The exhibition Foyer is composed of a series of French-Lithuanian projects and a result of cooperation between the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) in Vilnius and the FRACs (French Regional Art Collection) Grand Est. It is presented within the frames of the cultural season during the French EU presidency.
French and Lithuanian artists, curators and writers got involved in eight projects, which have been presented in both Lithuania and France since June 2008. Boundaries, site, space, exchange, language – these are the issues that appear and are questioned in the works on display. Lithuania is a model country of constant transformation as far as culture, language and territory are concerned. The latest examples are Lithuanian accession to the European Union and the Shengen free trade zone, and abundant migration of Lithuanian citizens to UK and Ireland.
Foyer includes the works by French artists: Adel Abdessemed, Cyprien Gaillard, Regis Perray, and Raphaël Zarka, as well as Lithuanian authors concerning the issues of language and space. Foyer also embraces a special residency project "The Vilnius Constellation Works" by French artist Jean-Christophe Norman.
