The Annual Working Session of the Union of the Baltic Cities Commission on Culture will take place in the city of Bergen on November 27-29.
Bergen, the European Capital of Culture 2000, will host the meeting of the Commission of Culture at the same time as the Mini Midi Maxi children's theatre festival.
The UBC Commission on Culture's function is to initiate and keep up cultural cooperation between the Baltic member cities, as well as spread the information about all cultural activities in the region. The Commission works according to the plan of the UBC General Conference and meets anually to discuss culture-related matters.
The festival is of international character with performances from Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Russia, England and Norway, and a number of seminars and meetings. The participants of the Comission will meet the artists and watch some performances. The festival programme reflects the subject of the UBC working session: Art for Children – practice and theory.
The participants will discuss advantages for children resulting from their contacts with art. The city of Bergen will give examples of the programs which are implemented in the city schools: "The Cultural Rucksack" ( Den kulturelle skolesekken) for professional art and culture for children aged 6-16 and the program " Den kulturelle bæremeisen" for pre-schools.
