Winterfest International Music Festival :: 25 Nov. 2008 – 2 Feb. 2009, Riga.

Winterfest is an annual international event organised by Herman Braun Foundation. The first edition of the festival took place in 1999. The concerts of the festival aim to celebrate Christmas and New Year in December, Orthodox Christmas in January and Herman Braun Foundation anniversary in February.
The opening concert took place on November 25 in Riga Large Guild Hall, starring a Japanese violinist Midori and American pianist Charles Abramowitz. They performed music by Bach, Schubert, Faure and Shostakovich. Artemis Quartet (Germany) will present music by Bach and Beethoven at the concert on December 7.
The programs of the following concerts will differ in styles and genres, and will include, among others, the Latvian Radio Choir and the a capella boys group Cosmos in the performance entitled "Nighttime Prayer" in Riga Dome Church (December 11); Bach's Weihnachtoratorium; Handel's Messiah; a Christams charity concert Symphony of Toys and a number of concerts featuring international maestros, young soloists, chamber ensambles, choirs and jazz groups.
The final concert will take place on February 2, 2009, and will feature the I Virtuosi del teatro alla Scala chamber orchestra from Italy.
