Small Structures Are Beautiful till 15 January 2009 :: Prague
(2008 12 08 23:29)
The etc.galerie will host an exhibition Small Structures Are Beautiful by a German artist Janne Schaefer and a Danish artist Kristine Agergaard, who have been working together as J&K since 1999. The project brought to Prague in cooperation with a German project space uqbar will be on display from December 5, 2008 to January 15, 2009. Both artists explore and play with belief systems and human attempts to explain the world. Artists perform self-experiments acting out made-up characters' parts and staging magical rituals to make various images of the world and worldviews alive.
The first 'episode' of the exhibition is called Tools and Relicts. It presents a totally fictional universe with symbols and rituals created by J&K with the use of objects, such as artefacts and performance relicts: small vessels, semi-precious stones and playing cards, and images from the National Geographic taken from the editions of the last 50 years, collages and staged photographs. All these elements compose a huge collage-like installation.
Small Structures Are Beautiful is also the exchange project between project spaces uqbar, Berlin, and etc.galerie, Prague. In 2009 a presentation of etc.galerie with works by the Czech artist Martin Kubíček will be displayed in Berlin.
