SYNAXIS BALTICA - Students Academy 2008 :: St. Petersburg/Tikhvin, Russia, 1-14 August, 2008 :: "Discovering new cultural-historical attractions"  (Stirring up the Social-Cultural Potential of the Region. Cultural Heritage and Cultural Tourism) is aimed to analyze and develop new ideas how to use the unique potential of the city of Tikhvin for its development.

 

 The city of Tikhvin has an enormous potential for development of cultural, pilgrimage, learning and recreational tourism. With its special architecture and atmosphere Tikhvin is included in the list of 430 Russian historical cities. It is here that one of the very important relics of the Russian Orthodox Church – the Tikhvin icon of Mother of God is kept . The city of Tikhvin is a place where a lot of notable people were born or lived, like the composer Rimski-Korsakov, the archeologist Ravdonikas and the academic Likhachov.

There are already the very first ideas how to use this potential and it is expected that it all will be explored and developed by the school participants with the support of guest and local experts.

The school will take in St. Petersburg and the city of Tikhvin, Leningradskaya oblast.
