16 BSSSC Annual Conference 2008, 17-19 September 2008, Kaunas, Lithuania

This Year’s Annual Conference is hosted by Kaunas Region Governor’s Administration and organized in cooperation with BSSSC (Baltic Sea States Subregional Co-operation), CoR (the Committee of the Regions), the European Commission DG Regional Policy and the Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007-2013. It will be preceeded by a youth event. The participation in this event will be free of charge and all national delegations are encouraged to bring about 5 young people with them.
Plenary sessions, parallel sessions/round tables, a partner search forum for new projects within the Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007 – 2013 and a panel debate will be parts of the conference in Kaunas.
The title of this year’s conference is Shaping the future Baltic Sea Region – Sub-regional contribution to the EU Baltic Sea Strategy. The key issues to be discussed during the conference are among others:
1. A sustainable and economic prosperous Baltic Sea Region
2. How to develop a strong sustainable and competitive BSR
3. Innovation across borders – using diversity and cooperation as building blocks
4. BSR as a European maritime best practice region by 2015
5. Sustainable energy – towards the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen in 2009.
The main speakers of the conference will be Director General Mr. Dirk Ahner from the European Commission DG Regional Policy and Ms. Mikaela Kumlin Granit representing the Swedish Government.
