‘Watercolours’ is a project developed as a contribution to Stavanger2008 programme. It creates visual changes in the city’s image as well as sustainable values building the identity of a fast-changing society. The project uses light to present the modern city of Sandnes and its beautiful and dramatic landscape. Famous architects and performing artists employed new technology to make the city more visible, show its contrasts and present the best of it. Many parts of the project will be permanent with the aim to revitalise the town centre.
One of the installations is called ‘Streams and Flows’– it creatively illuminates the city’s railway station subways which leads to safer traffic and walkways. The subways turn into lighted portals which mirror the users who can observe themselves and others as active elements of the township. With their movements people can create their own special pictures and performances.
The last installation to open will be ‘The Junction of Light’ (4 September 2008). An illuminated fountain of water spray in the Vågen bay will symbolize the city’s dependence on shipping, fishing, trade and industry.
