World Village Festival :: 24 – 25 May 2008, Helsinki

The main organizer of this event is the Service Centre for Development Cooperation, KEPA which is the umbrella organisation for over 270 development organisations or other NGOs working on development and globalisation issues. On the whole there are over 300 other partners such as educational institutions, museums, public authorities and businesses involved in the project.
The festival is 12 years old and has been an annual event since 2005. This year music, dance and theatre star performances, programme for kids and exhibitions can be expected in Kaisaniemi Park and on the Railway Square in Helsinki. About 200 organisations will be present demonstrating the power of civil society action.
Each festival has an important leitmotiv. Issues such as environment, human rights, tolerance, development work and multiculturalism have become topics of great significance for the event. The aim is to make the world a better place through culturally and socially diverse settings.
This year the main objective of the festival is to create a meeting point for people from all over the world presenting cultural treats and surprises as well as a place to exchange viewpoints on tolerant multiculturalism, development work and globalisation.
