The 13th MÄNTTÄ ART FESTIVAL, 15 June – 17 August 2008
(2008 06 23 23:20)
The Festival presents Finnish visual art made by contemporary artists. It is organized by a private association Mäntän kuvataiteen ystävät ry , The Friends of Mänttä Art Festival. The Festival was first arranged as a bennial event in 1993 but since 1999 it has taken place annually.
Each year a curator who has the freedom of choosing the artists is selected. Last year it was Jani Leinonen who took the challenge to bring the 25 Best Artists in Finland to Mänttä. In that exhibition art was spreading outside the actual art works. Lively debate was present on the website, in the streets and cafés. The prize was awarded to Ilona Valkonen for a meditating and open work called Indoor karensansui that was situated in Pekilo. Petri Ala-Maunus was awarded by Lions Club Mänttä as The Favorite of the Audience.
This year the exhibition’s curator is Veli Granö and he is going to carry out the theme The Art of Humanity. He invited 72 artists/groups to take part in this year’s edition of the Festival.
The exhibition will take place in the following venues:
Pekilo, Tehtaankatu 21
Adjacent outdoor areas
Mänttä church. Open from 10 am to 16.30 pm.
The opening hours are 11 am to 6 pm.
