“Baltic Bridges. Displacements”, 11 July - 24 August 2008 :: Kaunas, Lithuania
(2008 07 08 06:01)‘
Baltic Bridges’ is a new project, organized in Kaunas only for the second time, but it is a successor of Baltic States’ watercolour triennials which were held in Riga (Latvia) since 1968. The aim of ‘Baltic Bridges’ is to reveal the variety of artistic thought in watercolour, a lively and dynamic approach to the millenary experience of watercolour, seeking for its original angle of form and meaning. Artists of various creative spheres from eleven European countries are united and their experiments stimulated.
This year the conception of ‘Baltic Bridges’ is outlined by a notion ‘displacements’ which can be interpreted in many creative ways. It is a word which describes the lightness, volatility of watercolour’s artistic language, the optical illusion of motion, the merging of spots of colours. But the most important is the search for displacements and breaks in the tectonics of watercolour’s quality and content. Much value is put upon greatly mastered traditional means of expression but also not limiting oneself with usual creative methods and drawing daringly the newest trajectory of watercolour’s displacements.
The exhibition takes place in Kaunas Picture Gallery (K.Donelaičio str. 16, Kaunas, Lithuania) and is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11 to 17.
