Oldest and Youngest, music project in the Nordic Region
(2008 08 07 14:35)
The project, Oldest and Youngest, folk music and new composers in the Nordic Region, 2008 – 2009, subsidized by the Nordic Cultural Fund examines the relationship between old traditional music and contemporary art music in six Nordic countries: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The presentation includes new works composed by Rune Glerup, Fredrik Österling, Henrik Hellstenius, Atli Ingolfsson, Sunleif Rasmussen and Mads Lumholt, and played by Bolette Roed (recorder), Rune T. Sørensen (violin) and Andreas Borregaard (accordion).
The idea of the project is to give a sense of common roots and neighbourhood to the nations, which apart from the linguistic similarities and history, often fail to experience a sense of community. The concerts will take place in the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland in summer/ autumn 2008 (first series) and then in Denmark, Norway and Sweden in spring/ summer 2009 (second series).
