Vekara-Varkaus Children's Summer Festival, 8 - 14 June 2009, Varkaus, Finland

The city of Varkaus in Eastern Finland invites all children and adults to the Children's Summer Festival. The Festival will comprise of numerous events aiming at the young audiences and participants: a variety of workshops, the Finnish Summersaults Championships, the Song Contests, the Adventure Island and the Leafy Man park concert are just some picks.
The Festival starts on Monday 8 June at 10 in the morning, and the same day at 6 pm in the Varkhaus Hall young singers will compete in the open singing contest ( in two categories: under 10, and 10 to 16 year old). The Vekara Orchestra will accompany 20 soloists.
The Summersault Championships will take place on Sunday 14 June at the Itsenäisyys Park. Anybody can train before the contest and try their chances in the contest in various age groups.
The children will also select and announce their best book - the Lasten LukuVarkaus children´s literature award, and the winner will give his or her workshops during the Vekara-Varkaus children’s week. Other workshops for children and families will include sand sculpting, clay moulding, fishing and learning manual skills.
