Fokbaltica's tribute to Edvard Grieg, 22-29.09.2007, Flensburg, Germany
(2007 09 04 15:02)
On the occasion of the 100. anniversary of Edvard Grieg's death folkBALTIKA has prepared an unusual concert programme for all little and big music lovers from 7 to 99 years old.
In the programme:
- the symphony orchestra of Schleswig-Holstein
- 3 improvising musicians from Norway: “Sturm and Drang”
- the cunductor Florian Frannek
- and the taleteller Andreas "Peer" Kähler, who retold the story about Peer Gynt especially for Flensburg
Peer Gynt seeks luck in distant countries and encounters curious experiences during his travels. „Little Peer is coming home” is a musical adventure created by Andreas Peer Kähler. It is based on the drama by Henrik Ibsen inspired by a Norwegian folk tale. Music score includes motifs from Edvard Grieg’s famous suites and from own compositions and arrangements of folk tunes of the band ‘Sturm and Drang’ from Oslo. This will be a worthwhile concert for children and grownups alike.
Dates and venues:
- 25. Sept. 11.00 a.m., concert for pupils, Theater Flensburg
- 26. Sept. 11.00 a.m, concert for pupils, Theater Rendsburg
- 27. Sept. 11.00 a.m, concert for pupils, Theater Schleswig
- 28. Sept. 10.00 a.m, Thor-Heyerdahl Gymnasium, Kiel (without Orchester)
- 29. Sept. 15.00 a.m, concert for families, Stadttheater Flensburg
Additionally, the musicians of ‘Sturm and Drang’ from Oslo will give concerts of their current programme "Nordic Rhapsody", on the evenings from 22nd to 29th of September.
The fiddler Ragnar Heyerdahl (a grandnephew of Thor Heyerdahl!) and the double-bass player Svein Haugen are musicans of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. The third musician in the band is the guitarist Eilif Moe. There, if it becomes to much “Storm and Stress” the conductor’s baton is used to dun and limit it. The music is an original and very amusing mixture of their own compositions as well as improvisation about classical themes and different folk tunes from the northern and eastern parts of Europe.
