The International Contemporary Dance Festival “New Baltic Dance” over 11 years of its activity became one of the main and most prestigious dance festivals in the Baltic Sea area. Since the first festival in 1997, the geography of the guests participants had expanded – festival has presented companies from all Nordic and Baltic countries, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Israel, Canada, Slovenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhsta and Poland. One of the main goals of the Festival is to present the most recent productions: premieres, post-premieres and works in progress.

This year the Festival will be accompanied by the first keðja encounter on Mobility and Touring taking on 10-12 May 2008. The project consists in six international dance encounters in the Nordic-Baltic countries within the period 2008-2010. Artistic events, workshops, seminars and other kinds of exchange will take place, addressing the future of contemporary dance and its role in society. The name keðja (the Icelandic word for chain) symbolizes that the aim of the project is to connect, attach, encircle and move outwards as well as to strengthen the already existing chains/networks.
