5th folkBALTICA :: 22-26 April 2009; Flensburg
(2008 12 09 11:11)
The 2009 edition of the festval will include over 30 events on both sides of the German-Danish border. Besides the Marienkirche (St. Mary’s Church), the main concert venue will be the Forum of the Danish Duborg Skole on Flensburg’s western heights, offering an excellent view of the fjord across to Denmark.
Besides groups from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Latvia and Germany, next year’s focus will primarily be on the variety and renowned quality of the Danish folk scene. The programme creates a link between the 18th century music of the Faaborg minstrel Rasmus Storm through to the modern sounds of the German-Scandinavian project Fjord Skies, itself reminiscent of the jazzy arrangements of the Danish folk songs of world famous bassist Niels Henning Ørsted Petersen.
Concerts, film screenings, exhibitions and workshops will also be held on Flensburg’s Museumsberg, at the Pilkentafel Theatre Workshop, the Volksbad, the maritime museum, in Flensborghus and the Helligandskirke, and throughout the Sønderjylland-Schleswig region Christmas Concert .
Those not able to wait for folkBALTICA 2009 could get a taste of Danish music in the Danish Ansgar Church in Flensburg (Apenrader Strasse) on 8th December at a concert of traditional Danish and Scandinavian Christmas carols, performed by one of Denmark’s leading folk singers, Helene Blum, with the fantastic Ditte Fromseier on violin, alongside Kirstine Pedersen (cello) and Frederik Vedersø (guitars).
