5th folkBALTICA will be held with over 30 events. After the successful “Estonia Experiment” at folkBALTICA 2008, which ended with a new record number of over 4,500 visitors, the country focus of this year festival in Flensburg and the German-Danish border region of Sønderjylland-Schleswig will be on Denmark.
Besides the Marienkirche (St. Mary’s Church), the main concert venue will be the Forum of the Danish Duborg Skole on Flensburg’s western heights, offering an excellent view of the fjord across to Denmark.
folkBALTICA presents traditional music from across the whole Baltic region in modern forms that bridges folk, jazz, world and classical music. Besides groups from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Latvia and Germany,
this year’s focus will primarily be on the variety and renowned quality of the Danish folk scene.
The top of the innovative Danish folk scene is in the starting blocks and you can especially look forward to the unique folkBALTICA projects like the great festival finale: “An Evening for Rasmus Storm”, with hits from Rasmus Storm’s collection of sheet music with around 30 musicians.
The Jew’s harp (also known as the jaws harp) is the Instrument of the Year.
