Wake up! - Rauma Biennale Balticum 2006


Rauma Biennale Balticum is exhibiting contemporary art from countries around the Baltic Sea. The history of the biennial began already in 1977 with a Finnish-Swedish exhibition and from the year 1985 the exhibition has included all the countries around the Baltic Sea: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Sweden. The period of since the biennial exists can be characterized by great political and ideological and artistic changes in the region. Along the different themes of the biennial (Survival, Basic elements, Talking to me?) artworks have been reflecting topical issues from politics to basics of human life.

EXHIBITION BALTIC ROCOCO - FAIENCES AROUND THE BALTIC SEA 2003-2004


Before the 18th century, the art of making faience, tin-glazed earthenware, was not popular in the Baltic Sea Region. A longer peaceful period, which followed the end of the Nordic War in 1721, led to an upturn of the trade and the economy around the Baltic Sea. Noblemen and wealthy citizens demanded finer table-wear, but the fine china, produced in German and French manufactories, was too expensive and exclusive for most of them. As the white glazed faience seemed to be a good substitute, in the 18th century more than 40 manufactories were founded around the Baltic Sea, producing all kinds of tableware and decorative ceramics.

The 8th Biennial of Graphic Art of the Baltic States ''Kaliningrad-Koenigsberg''


The opening of the 8th Biennial of Graphic Art of the Baltic States "Kaliningrad – Koenigsberg" has taken place in September 15, 2005. More than 100 artists from 10 countries of the Baltic Sea region took part in it, namely from Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Finland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway. Among the guests of the Biennial were artists, specialists from different countries, well-known art-critics, art specialists from the leading museums of our country.
