THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF YOUNG MUSICIANS "KAUNAS 2008", 25-30 March 2008
(2007 02 26 14:45)
Launched in 1990 on the initiative of Kaunas Philharmonic Society, the event differs from many similar festivals as it’s open for pianists, string and wind players under the age of 16 years only. The organisers decided that the event would be a special support for young but already prised musicians - winners of national and international contests or those who already have had extensive experience of public performance.
Young talents participate in the Festival with great enthusiasm. They can make acquaintances, listen to musicians from their age group, and broaden their musical horizons. It is also important and useful for professors and teachers accompanying their students to hear interpretations of young musicians with different teaching methods and performance techniques.
The usual format of the festival is six or seven concerts, with the opening and closing evenings featuring the participants playing with the Kaunas Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Pavel Berman (violin, Italy). The festival audiences have already admired young virtuosos not only from the countries situated around the Baltic, but also from Ukraine, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, the United States, Jordan, Iraq, South Korea, China, Great Britain, Georgia and Armenia. This year’s festival will feature young performers from 13 countries, including those from Italy, Japan, Romania and Singapore, who will be participating in this event for the first time.
Since 1998, there have been organised master classes by distinguished professors. This year’s master classes will be led by Petras Geniušas (piano, Lithuania), Pavel Berman (violin, Italy) and Gennady Shamin (bassoon, Russia).
