»Bigband Battle« - JazzBaltica 2009 :: 1 - 5 July 2009

This year July JazzBaltica spotlights Bigbands. Themed »Bigband Battle«, a unique project in the festival landscape will be realized. JazzBaltica presents six international bands plus the JazzBaltica Ensemble: the NDR Bigband under the direction of the celebrated American conductor Maria Schneider, the Jazz Bigband Graz, the Bohuslän Bigband, the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and the LandesJugendJazzOrchester Schleswig-Holstein.

 

The program offers much more: JazzBaltica 2009 comes up with a lot of new discoveries, for example the New York harp-player Edmar Castaneda who has his German debut in Salzau. JazzBaltica meets again with 91-year-old Hank Jones and the legend on the saxophone James Moody. The quartet »max.bab« or the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra which consists of young musicians of Berlin’s Jazz- and college scene represent the young German Jazz. With »Treasures – Remembering Esbjörn« the JazzBaltica Ensemble commemorates the musician Esbjörn Svensson who was killed in an accident last year.
