Culture 2000 in Numbers
(2007 08 03 13:34)
The analysis of the seven years of the Culture 2000 programme shows that the main engineers of European cultural co-operation are Italians.
Budapest Observatory, which monitors how cultural life - cultural activities and products - are being financed and administered in east-central European countries, has analysed the outcome of Culture 2000 programme. BO counted 1078 cultural co-operation projects realised during the seven years of the programme. They include both annual and multiannual projects from the fields ranging from heritage to books and literature. Translations grants have been excluded as they are observed separately.
The countries of the Baltic Sea Region did quite well. They have implemented 22% of all winning projects.
Among them the leader is Germany.
Germany - 110
Sweden - 31
Finland - 28
Poland - 23
Norway - 15
Denmark- 13
Lithuania - 9
Latvia – 6
Estonia - 4
Closer look at the overall statistics shows the leading position of Italy, which has coordinated over 20% of all winning projects. As BO concludes “Italians are then the main engineers of European cultural co-operation. Also, the busiest bees collecting nectar from the flower-bed of European funds for culture”.
