Meeting of the Education, Youth and Culture Council, 21-22 May 2008, Brussels

Dr Vasko Simoniti will be the chairman of the meeting of EU ministers responsible for culture and audiovisual policy which will take place on 21 May. The ministers will discuss proposed Council conclusions on European approach to media literacy in the digital environment as well as on establishing a multi-annual Community programme on protecting children using the internet and other communication technologies.
In the culture section the Council Work Plan for Culture 2008-2010 will be brought up. The improvement of conditions for the mobility of artists and other professionals in the cultural field; promotion of the accessibility of culture, especially by promoting cultural heritage, digitisation, cultural tourism and greater mobility of art collections; and promotion and implementation of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions are priority areas that are going to be adopted in the work plan for the next period. Proposed Council conclusions on intercultural competencies will also be discussed.
The Slovenian Minister of Education and Sport, Dr Milan Zver will be the chairman of the meeting on 22 May. The morning session will be devoted to education - promoting innovation and creativity through education and training. The afternoon session will be concentrated on youth policy. Before the session Dr Milan Zver will discuss the issue with young people.
