Active Participation in Cultural Activities :: Ljubljana, 20-22 June, 2008

The organizers invite all those interested in active participation in culture to take part in the formation of the network wwhich is to be established as a result of this European conference.
The conference is a further and important step in the continuation of the conferences "Art4all" in Utrecht, the Netherlands in 2004 and "Value, Include, Connect" in Cardiff, Wales (UK) in 2005. As there has been huge resistance in different countries to the word ‘voluntary’ as well as ‘amateur’ the organizers suggest that focus is placed on ‘active participation’. Active participation in cultural activities means that ordinary people are enlarging their possibilities of understanding, empathy, and expression through the work with arts.
A small figure AMATEO has been selected for the logo of the network.
If you agree, that European organisations of amateur arts, socio cultural activities, and community arts should be acknowledged more for their importance to individuals, society, culture and art and recognised as worthy of support from EU and Council of Europe cultural programmes then you should participate in the conference in Ljubljana.
