A budget of €400 million of the EU Culture Programme is allocated on projects and initiatives presenting Europe's cultural diversity and implementing cross-border cooperation projects between cultural institutions. The Culture Programme has three objectives: promote cross-border mobility of those working in the cultural sector; encourage the transnational circulation of cultural and artistic output; and foster intercultural dialogue.
Those objectives are achieved through three kinds of activities: cultural actions; European-level cultural bodies; and analysis and dissemination activities.
Cultural actions are based on cooperation between organisations from various countries. The programme include projects which run for over 3-5 years; or over two years,; or relate to high-profile actions of considerable scale and scope, such as European Capitals of Culture. The deadline for multi-annual projects is 1 October 2009.
Support for cultural bodies facilitates exchanges between European organisation from various countries. They integrate artistic community, respresent artists when dealing with EU institutions, participate in public debates on culture. The deadline for grants for European cultural bodies is 1 November 2009.
Analysis and dissemination activities are also supported. They help to spread information about the Culture Programme, provide analyses in cultural cooperation and policy development, as well as support cultural contact points.
